Quick Answer · GBP Visibility
Why is my GBP not showing?
The usual causes are suspension, quality filtering, proximity, a too-new profile, or a duplicate listing. The fix depends entirely on which one — so the first step is diagnosing the cause, not guessing. Searching for your own business by name can also mislead you; what matters is whether real customers in your area can find you.
First, check how you're searching.
A common false alarm: you search your own business from your office, don't see it ranked where you expect, and panic. But results are personalized by your location and history, and Google often suppresses a business in results when you're searching for it repeatedly from the same place. The real test is whether customers across your service area find you for the searches that matter — which a geo-grid scan measures properly.
If the profile genuinely isn't appearing for anyone, it's one of the causes below — each with a different fix. Measuring visibility properly →
Suspension.
If the profile vanished entirely, it may be suspended — often triggered by a keyword-stuffed name, an address that doesn't meet guidelines, or too many sensitive edits at once. A suspended profile needs the underlying issue fixed and a reinstatement request with evidence, not more edits. Suspension & recovery →
Quality filtering or a thin profile.
Google may filter a profile out of competitive results if it looks low-quality or incomplete — weak category, few reviews, missing info, little activity. The fix is the optimization work: right category, completeness, sustained reviews, and a profile that looks like an active, legitimate business. The optimization checklist →
Proximity and a too-new profile.
Proximity means you rank strongest near your location and fade with distance — so you may show for nearby searchers and not distant ones, which is normal, not a bug. And a brand-new or newly-verified profile often takes time to gain traction before it ranks competitively. Both call for patience plus the prominence work that earns position over time. How map-pack ranking works →
Duplicate or conflicting listings.
Duplicate profiles for the same business split your signals and confuse Google about which to show — sometimes suppressing all of them. The fix is identifying and resolving duplicates and making your name, address, and phone consistent everywhere. This overlaps with citation cleanup and entity work. Service-area vs storefront setup →
Diagnose before you act.
Each cause has a different fix, and applying the wrong one — editing a suspended profile, "optimizing" one that's only a proximity issue — wastes time or makes it worse. Confirm with a proper geo-grid check whether it's truly not showing, identify the cause, then act. A diagnosis pinpoints which problem you actually have. Local Intelligence →
